Amma Houri was the name of resistance and a mother who never stopped resisting. Since 2013, after her beloved son was taken by the state, her life has been a journey of grief and unanswered questions. A widow for over thirty years, she carried her pain to the streets, roads, camps, and protests, knocking on every door in search of her son. She faced baton charges, threats, hunger, and exhaustion, yet never stepped back. She witnessed violence at the Baloch National Gathering and in 2023, joined the camp alongside Dr Mahrang Baloch, travelling even to Dalbandin for the jalsa. For thirteen years, she searched, and in 2025, in Islamabad, she was still demanding justice for her leaders and whispering her sonโs name in every prayer.
And today, Amma Houri has passed away waiting. She died carrying that same ache in her chest. She died without holding her son one last time. She died without knowing where he was. She couldn’t hug his son one last time. And even today, as her eyes have closed, her resistance has not ended. It lives in every mother who stands with a photograph in her hands. It lives in every voice that still demands truth and justice.
Amma Houri did not leave this world defeated. She left it as she lived in it, waiting, loving, and resisting. May her restless heart finally find peace. And may the son she waited for know that his mother never stopped calling his name not even in her final breath. As Amma Houri tirelessly demanded justice for her son and for all forcibly disappeared sons. We urge the immediate and safe return of all those held in detention and torture cells, so that the long and painful waiting of mothers may finally come to an end.
