22 March Balochistan: Today marks one year since the detention of leaders linked to the Baloch Yakjehti Committee, with activists and supporters raising concerns over what they describe as prolonged and unjust imprisonment.
According to a statement shared by the group, individuals from Quetta, Makran and Dera Ghazi Khan were detained despite engaging in what supporters say were peaceful political activities, including holding placards and speaking publicly.
The group claims those detained were presented before anti-terrorism courts and repeatedly handed 90-day remands, while also being labelled as proclaimed offenders.
Among those named is Dr Mahrang Baloch, whose continued detention has drawn criticism from rights advocates. They argue that the imprisonment is not linked to any proven offence but reflects wider pressure on dissenting voices.

The statement further alleges that police raids, limited judicial response and restrictions on online expression have combined to silence activists. It adds that multiple state institutions appear aligned in extending detentions through legal justifications.
Supporters insist the campaign led by those detained was peaceful, centred on raising awareness about issues in Balochistan, and say the response highlights growing unease within the system towards such activism.
