The Jeay Sindh Freedom Movement (JSFM) hosted the 1st G M Syed International Conference in London on 18 January 2026 to mark the 122nd birth anniversary of Sain G. M. Syed, regarded by Sindhis as a central figure in their struggle for national self-determination and cultural rights.
Delegates from Baloch, Sindhi, Kashmiri, Mohajir, and Gilgit-Baltistani communities attended. Speakers described their territories as being occupied or controlled by Pakistan, accusing Islamabad and the Pakistani Army of grave human rights abuses, including enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, collective punishment, curbs on the press, and intimidation of political activists.
Participants argued that Pakistan’s actions amount to the systematic suppression of distinct national identities and political movements aspiring to self-rule or independence. Several contributors called on the international community to “break its silence”, urging the United Nations, human rights organisations, and Western governments to apply diplomatic pressure and demand accountability for alleged abuses in areas under Pakistani military control.
London-based Baloch political and human rights activists also joined the gathering. Among them was Aomar Karim, who attended to show solidarity and support for Sindhi democratic and human rights causes. Karim has been active in highlighting human rights concerns in Balochistan and neighbouring regions through media and advocacy work.
Organisers said such issues remain largely unexamined by international institutions and policymakers, despite decades of documented violations.
