Baloch human rights and political activist Aomar Karim has issued a statement condemning Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to restrict international access to Balochistan, citing the region’s daily human rights violations and the government’s fear of global scrutiny. Karim’s statement comes amid increasing international concern over the treatment of the Baloch people and the recent detention of British tourists Craig and Lindsay Foreman in Iran.
In a press release, Aomar Karim stated: “The continued isolation of Balochistan from the international community is part of Pakistan’s deliberate strategy to prevent the world from witnessing the grave human rights abuses taking place in the region. By restricting foreign access, Pakistan hopes to keep its atrocities hidden, including forced disappearances, arbitrary detentions, and extrajudicial killings committed by its security forces and intelligence agencies.”
Karim further emphasised that the case of Craig and Lindsay Foreman highlights the risks faced by foreign nationals who attempt to enter Balochistan, a region under tight military control. “The Pakistani government’s refusal to allow international tourists and human rights organisations into Balochistan is a clear indication that it has much to hide,” he continued. “If the world knew the truth about what is happening in Balochistan, Pakistan would be forced to answer for its actions.”
Karim’s statement calls for increased international pressure on Pakistan to allow independent access to Balochistan, where violations of human rights continue to escalate. He urges global human rights organisations, governments, and media outlets to focus on the region and hold Pakistan accountable for its actions.
The Baloch people have suffered for too long in silence. The world must know the truth, and it is only through international pressure that we can hope for change,” Karim concluded.
