The Baloch Advocacy and Studies Center (BASC) has strongly condemned the suicide bombing claimed by ISIS that struck a Balochistan National Party (BNP) gathering at Shahwani Stadium in Quetta, killing and injuring scores of people.
The rally, held to commemorate the death anniversary of veteran nationalist leader Sardar Attaullah Mengal, drew supporters from across the province. BASC described the attack as a “horrific act of terror” that claimed innocent lives and left many families devastated.
In a statement, the organisation extended condolences to the BNP leadership and bereaved families, while criticising Pakistan’s “history of fostering and instrumentalising extremist religious groups to serve its domestic and regional agendas.”
“This tragedy is yet another reminder of Pakistan’s policies that have destabilised not only the country but the wider region, with ordinary people paying the ultimate price,” BASC said.
The group argued that the targeting of Baloch political movements fits into a broader pattern of repression. “Pakistan has consistently chosen aggression over recognition of the Baloch struggle for the right to self-determination,” the statement noted, warning that the use of militant proxies perpetuates cycles of terror and bloodshed.
BASC called on the international community to take urgent notice, urging independent monitoring of Pakistan’s human rights obligations and accountability for “policies that enable and perpetuate terrorism.”
“We reiterate that such acts of terrorism must be condemned without reservation, and we stand in solidarity with the BNP and all victims of this atrocity,” the statement concluded. “Pakistan must dismantle its terror infrastructure, end the weaponisation of extremism, and demonstrate a genuine commitment to human rights and peace in the region.
