Quetta, Balochistan – The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) has issued an update on the ongoing detention of its leadership, revealing that several prominent activists, including Dr. Mahrang Baloch, Gulzadi Baloch, Beebarg Baloch, Sibghatullah Baloch, and Beebu Baloch, have been held under what the organisation describes as “illegal detention and false charges” for over five months.
In a statement, BYC emphasised that the detained leaders are human rights defenders and political voices advocating against enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and systemic repression in Balochistan. The organisation condemned what it called “fabricated FIRs and repeated remands” used as tools to intimidate and suppress political resistance.
The committee’s legal team has challenged these cases in the High Court of Balochistan, arguing that the charges are politically motivated and aimed solely at silencing dissent. The petition highlights threats of re-arrest, harassment, and coercive actions against the activists. BYC also pointed out that the judicial principle limiting one arrest per pending case is being violated, and forcibly shifting detainees across districts or provinces endangers their lives and security.
The High Court has now issued notices to the respondents, restraining the authorities from moving BYC leaders outside Quetta District or Balochistan until the next hearing.
BYC welcomed this judicial development but stressed that the struggle continues. “The continued detention of our activists is a direct attack on the democratic and political rights of the Baloch nation. We will not retreat,” the statement read. The committee affirmed that it will continue resisting through political, legal, and public advocacy until all false cases are quashed and every detained activist is released.
