On 28 March 2026, during a London protest, Baloch political activist Aomar Karim took to the streets of London to raise awareness of Pakistan’s human rights violations in Balochistan, urging the international community to take notice. The Balochistan human rights violations, including enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings, have long been ignored by the world.
Aomar Karim at London’s Largest Ever Anti-Far-Right Protest
This protest, held in London on 28 March 2026, was organised by the Together Alliance, a coalition of hundreds of civil society organisations united against the far right. Organisers claimed half a million people attended, describing it as the largest anti-far-right demonstration in British history, whilst the Metropolitan Police estimated approximately 50,000. Aomar Karim used this historic gathering as a powerful platform to raise awareness of Pakistan’s human rights violations in Balochistan, ensuring the Baloch cause reached a wide international audience.
Aomar Karim, a London-based Baloch activist, participated in a protest on 28 March 2026. During the event, he distributed leaflets and spoke with the public about extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances and ongoing political repression in Balochistan by Pakistan.
BYC Leaders Arrested and Detained by Pakistan
Holding a clear message, the campaign centred on the “Stop the Silencing of Balochistan’s Voices” and called for the release of illegally detained BYC Baloch Yakjehti (Solidarity) Committee leaders, including Dr Mahrang Baloch, Bebarg Baloch, Beebow, Shahji Sibghatullah, and all enforced disappeared Baloch activists.
Speaking during the demonstration, Mr Karim underlined that peaceful political engagement should never be treated as a crime.
“Raising awareness in London today. Peaceful political engagement is a right, not a crime,” he said in a post on X, formerly Twitter. “It is time to end enforced disappearances and state violence in Balochistan.”
Balochistan Human Rights Violations Highlighted in London Leaflet
Leaflets handed out during the protest highlighted a long-standing crisis, decades of unrest and continued violations against civilians in Balochistan by Pakistan. The campaign also marked one year since the reported detention of Baloch Yakjehti Committee leaders and 78 years of struggle in Balochistan.
As stated on the leaflet distributed at the protest: “A year ago Pakistan arrested Balochistan’s leaders. 78 years ago it occupied Balochistan.”
In protest, Aomar Karim handed out a leaflet and said, “Justice for Balochistan. Stop the silencing of Balochistan’s voices,” and called for international attention, with hashtags such as #ReleaseBYCLeaders and #StopBalochGenocide circulating online.

STOP THE SILENCING OF BALOCHISTAN’S VOICES!
On 27 March 1948, Pakistan occupied and annexed Balochistan, which has been violently denied self-determination ever since (part is also occupied by Iran). On 22 March 2025, as part of a brutal crackdown against the Baloch human rights movement, Pakistan arrested many of the leaders of the Baloch Yakjehti (Solidarity) Committee, BYC, including Dr Mahrang Baloch, Bebarg Baloch, Beebow, Shahji Sibghatullah and Gulzadi Baloch (pictured above and on the other side). Leaflet Back
(Continued from the other side) They are facing terrorism and sedition charges. And now Pakistan is seeking to arrest and detain the BYC leaders who remained outside prison.
Even before this crackdown, Baloch political activists have faced systematic targeting by the state authorities of Pakistan in Balochistan. Arrests, enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killing, prolonged detention, and intimidation are recurring realities. Every day, the BYC formally registers at least four cases of enforced disappearances; in reality, there are many more. All reflects a sustained drive to restrict all political activity and silence dissent. As the BYC puts it: “Peaceful political engagement is treated as a punishable act rather than a democratic right.”
With the arrest of so many leaders, entire communities are left without representation or protection. The world must not stay silent. Call to release the BYC leaders and all imprisoned and disappeared activists now! Stop enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings in Balochistan!
