In his speech, Mir Suleman condemned Pakistan’s actions in Balochistan, outlining how the region was forcefully occupied after Pakistan’s founding in 1947. He said, “Muhammad Ali Jinnah was our paid adviser, and after his intervention, Pakistani forces occupied Balochistan.” He also emphasized that the world recognised Balochistan as an independent state before Pakistan’s intervention. “On 11 August 1947, Balochistan was acknowledged as an independent country,” he added. He recounted the significant moments in Baloch history, mentioning Prince Abdul Karim Khan’s resistance in 1948, Nawab Nowroz Khan’s struggle, and the Marri tribe’s defiance under Sher Mohammad Bijarani Marri.
Mir Suleman further highlighted the military operations carried out by Pakistan in Balochistan, which he stated have continued to this day, resulting in the killing of innocent Baloch. He also praised the brave women of Balochistan who have now taken the lead in the struggle. “Now, our courageous women, mothers, sisters, and daughters are at the forefront of the Baloch struggle,” he declared proudly, “and we stand by them.”
Altaf Hussain, leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM)
Altaf Hussain, leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), also shared his insights on the Balochistan issue during the event. In his speech, he discussed the historical context of Balochistan’s occupation by Pakistan, detailing the human rights violations faced by the Baloch people. Hussain elaborated on how these injustices continue today, highlighting the struggles of the Baloch population, the killings of innocent civilians, and the ongoing issue of enforced disappearances.
Hussain also stressed that Pakistan’s oppressive actions are not limited to Balochistan alone but extend to his own MQM workers. He condemned the state for targeting MQM workers, stating, “Pakistan is not only killing Baloch people but also MQM workers.” He called for unity between Baloch and Muhajir communities, urging them to stand together in their fight for justice and against the common oppression they face. “We must be united and work together, for our struggle is shared,” Altaf Hussain concluded.
