London, 22 February 2025 — A significant book launch ceremony took place today for Altaf Hussain’s leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) new publication, Balochistan Issue… in the Light of History (مسئلہ بلوچستان … تاریخ کے آئینے میں). The event was graced by prominent figures, including the Chief Guest, Khan of Kalat, Mir Suleman Dawood Jan Ahmedzai, who is currently in self-exile in the United Kingdom. In his address, Mir Suleman discussed the ongoing human rights violations and the long-standing conflict that has plagued Balochistan since its occupation by Pakistan in 1948.

In his speech, Mir Suleman condemned Pakistan’s actions in Balochistan, outlining how the region was forcefully occupied after Pakistan’s founding in 1947. He said, “Muhammad Ali Jinnah was our paid adviser, and after his intervention, Pakistani forces occupied Balochistan.” He also emphasized that the world recognised Balochistan as an independent state before Pakistan’s intervention. “On 11 August 1947, Balochistan was acknowledged as an independent country,” he added. He recounted the significant moments in Baloch history, mentioning Prince Abdul Karim Khan’s resistance in 1948, Nawab Nowroz Khan’s struggle, and the Marri tribe’s defiance under Sher Mohammad Bijarani Marri.
Mir Suleman further highlighted the military operations carried out by Pakistan in Balochistan, which he stated have continued to this day, resulting in the killing of innocent Baloch. He also praised the brave women of Balochistan who have now taken the lead in the struggle. “Now, our courageous women, mothers, sisters, and daughters are at the forefront of the Baloch struggle,” he declared proudly, “and we stand by them.”
The Khan of Kalat concluded his speech by addressing Pakistan’s continued use of military operations, extrajudicial killings, and enforced disappearances in Balochistan. “It is time for Pakistan to realise that through military operations, killing innocent Baloch people, and committing human rights abuses, you will never defeat the Baloch nation,” he said firmly.

Altaf Hussain, leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), also shared his insights on the Balochistan issue during the event. In his speech, he discussed the historical context of Balochistan’s occupation by Pakistan, detailing the human rights violations faced by the Baloch people. Hussain elaborated on how these injustices continue today, highlighting the struggles of the Baloch population, the killings of innocent civilians, and the ongoing issue of enforced disappearances.
Hussain also stressed that Pakistan’s oppressive actions are not limited to Balochistan alone but extend to his own MQM workers. He condemned the state for targeting MQM workers, stating, “Pakistan is not only killing Baloch people but also MQM workers.” He called for unity between Baloch and Muhajir communities, urging them to stand together in their fight for justice and against the common oppression they face. “We must be united and work together, for our struggle is shared,” Altaf Hussain concluded.

The event also featured speeches from various figures, including Mustafa Azizabadi, Arshad Hussain Bai, and others, who focused on the history of Balochistan and the current human rights abuses in the region. The speakers unanimously condemned Pakistan’s actions in Balochistan, calling for an end to the state’s brutal military operations and urging the international community to take notice of the violations occurring.
As the ceremony concluded, the attendees called for greater global awareness and support for the Baloch people in their fight for justice and independence. The launch of Balochistan Issue… in the Light of History stands as a powerful reminder of the region’s unresolved issues and the ongoing struggle faced by the Baloch people.
