Baloch Yakjehti Committee says 19 people killed in โfake encountersโ and extrajudicial attacks in February, as it demands urgent international action
The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) has strongly condemned what it describes as a surge in extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, and staged โfake encountersโ in Balochistan during February 2026, warning that families are living in constant fear.
In a statement, the group said 19 individuals were confirmed to have been killed in targeted attacks and alleged fake encounters within a single month, with additional cases believed to have gone undocumented due to media restrictions and intimidation.
The committee described the killings as unlawful and inhumane, calling them grave violations of fundamental human rights and a direct assault on the dignity and security of the Baloch people.
โChildren, students, workers, and ordinary civilians are being targeted, abducted, and killed without explanation, due process, or accountability,โ the statement said.
The group demanded justice for the victims and called for those responsible to be identified, investigated, and prosecuted in independent courts of law.
Among the victims named were Yasir Lehri, described as a young tailor shot dead in broad daylight; Nawab Abdullah, an FSc student who was disappeared and later found dead; and three-year-old Deedagh Baloch, who the committee said was killed in a drone strike.
Other victims included students, minors, and previously disappeared individuals whose bodies were later recovered, according to the statement.
The committee said severe restrictions on media coverage and an atmosphere of fear meant only a fraction of cases could be formally documented.
The statement also highlighted the case of 24-year-old student Hamdan Baloch, who was reportedly forcibly disappeared on December 29, 2025, in Karachi by Counter Terrorism Department personnel.
According to his family, he was later presented before an Anti-Terrorism Court while in custody, before being killed on February 18, 2026, in what was described as a staged fake encounter.
Families of missing persons have previously protested such killings, accusing authorities of enforced disappearance followed by fabricated encounter deaths and demanding accountability. (Read here)
The committee warned that families seeking answers face intimidation and harassment, and said the rights to life, liberty, and justice were being systematically violated.
It urged the international community and global human rights organisations, including Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and the United Nations, to condemn the killings and take immediate action.
โNineteen confirmed lives were lost in a single month,โ the committee said. โBehind each name is a grieving family denied answers, denied due process, and denied justice.โ
