𝙁𝙚𝙗𝙧𝙪𝙖𝙧𝙮 14, 2026 — 𝙀𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙣 𝘽𝙮𝙥𝙖𝙨𝙨, 𝙌𝙪𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙖, 𝘽𝙖𝙡𝙤𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣 Junaid Ahmed, son of Ali Ahmed, a 22-year-old student and resident of Surab, was forcibly disappeared on January 23, 2026. He was forcibly taken from the Children’s Hospital, Quetta, by personnel of the Eagle Force and CTD. His body was bound with his hands and feet tied, and his body was riddled with bullets, pointing toward a custodial killing following enforced disappearance.
Such actions constitute grave violations of international law, including Article 6 (Right to Life) and Article 9 (Freedom from Arbitrary Arrest and Detention) of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), to which Pakistan is a State Party. The prohibition of torture and cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment under the Convention Against Torture (CAT) is also directly implicated in cases where victims’ bodies show signs of abuse. Furthermore, enforced disappearance violates the principles enshrined in the UN Declaration on the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance and customary international human rights law.
The international community, United Nations human rights organisations, including the Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances (WGEID) and global civil society must press for independent investigations, accountability, and sustained monitoring to ensure compliance with international human rights obligations.
Without urgent intervention and transparent accountability, the cycle of enforced disappearance and unlawful killing in Balochistan will persist unchecked.
