6 February 2025 – Dr. Mahrang Baloch, a prominent human rights activist and leader of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee, has been nominated for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize. She is one of 338 nominees for the prestigious award, which includes 244 individuals and 94 organisations.
The news was first reported by Kiyya Baloch, a Norway-based Baloch journalist, on X (formerly Twitter). Baloch confirmed that Dr. Mahrang Baloch was nominated for her tireless advocacy against human rights violations in Balochistan. Although the Nobel Foundation maintains confidentiality about nominees for 50 years, those who submit nominations can choose to disclose the details. According to Kiyya Baloch, the nomination was communicated to him by individuals directly involved in the process.

In 2023, Pakistani authorities blocked her from traveling to New York to attend a TIME magazineevent where she was honoured as one of the 100 rising leaders. This action was widely condemned by human rights organisations as a violation of her freedoms.
Dr. Baloch’sNobel Peace Prize nomination is seen as a significant recognition of her unwavering commitment to the struggle for justice and human rights in Balochistan.
