Balochistan – A fresh wave of enforced disappearances has emerged in Balochistan, with 41 individuals reportedly abducted by Pakistani forces across various regions, including Kalat, Quetta, Nushki, and Turbat, in the past few days. One individual who had recently been abducted, Hasrat Khalil, has returned home safely after being taken from Tump’s Gomazi area on February 13.

In Quetta, two young men, Fazal Rehman Qambrani and Zia Rehman Qambrani, were allegedly abducted during a late-night raid. Their family members reported that security forces entered their residence at approximately 11 PM, detained both men, and transported them to an undisclosed location.
Nushki has also witnessed a troubling rise in abductions. Among the latest victims are Nasruddin, Abrar Baloch, and Adnan Baloch. Nasruddin was abducted on February 21 while returning from work near Nushki Station, while Abrar and Adnan were taken on February 28. Adnan was later released, but his family noted this was not the first time he had been subjected to enforced disappearance.
The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) Nushki Zone has called on the public to take these disappearances seriously and warned that “inaction will only lead to further atrocities.”
In Turbat, a ninth-grade student from Syed Hashmi Grammar School, Gazain Liaquat, has been reported missing after leaving his home in the Absar area. He is the son of Liaquat Baloch, a former member of the Baloch Students Organisation (BSO) Pajjar from Awaran.
Meanwhile, mass raids in Kalat have led to the enforced disappearance of at least 35 more individuals. The missing persons include students, traders, and other local residents, all reportedly taken by security forces and moved to undisclosed locations.
The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) Kalat Zone issued a statement, warning that enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and targeted assassinations have become “daily occurrences” in the region. The BYC has called for the immediate release of all those forcibly disappeared in Kalat and urged human rights organisations to intervene.
Ongoing Protests and Calls for International Action
Despite the ongoing crisis, Hasrat Khalil’s return offers a rare glimmer of hope. His family confirmed his release after his abduction, but the situation remains dire across Balochistan.
Protests and sit-ins against enforced disappearances continue throughout the province, with major highways in Surab and Kardgap being blocked. Local activists emphasise the importance of public action and warn that inaction could lead to further atrocities.
Dr. Mahrang Baloch Condemns ‘State Violence’
Dr. Mahrang Baloch, a leader of the BYC, has condemned what she describes as “systematic oppression” in Balochistan. She referred to enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and targeted assassinations as state policy, equating the situation to a “holocaust” while accusing the international community of remaining silent.
She stated that Balochistan has become “a massive graveyard of missing persons” and an “open-air prison,” where the military operates “with impunity.” Dr. Baloch highlighted the devastating toll on families, many of whom have lost loved ones in military raids. She also criticised the state’s disregard for human rights, citing reports of abductions occurring “in broad daylight” and victims later found dead in “staged encounters.”
Dr. Baloch’s statement drew attention to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Balochistan, where thousands of people have been displaced due to military operations. She urged international organisations to intervene, warning that the silence of the international community has emboldened the perpetrators of these atrocities.
In her closing remarks, Dr. Baloch called for the immediate release of all forcibly disappeared persons, an end to extrajudicial killings, and an end to fake encounters. She vowed continued resistance until Balochistan’s fundamental rights are restored.
