Abduction and Protests
Hayat Sabzal, a resident of Kech district, was forcibly disappeared on 3 July 2024, at approximately 6 PM, from Meeri Kalag, Turbat, by armed men in a car. Following his abduction, his family launched a series of protests, including a press conference at the Turbat Press Club and demonstrations outside the District Commissioner’s office, calling for his safe return.
Despite repeated assurances from authorities that he would be released, Sabzal remained missing. His body was discovered last night in Panjgur, with activists alleging he was killed in a staged encounter.
Public Outcry and Condemnation
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation from human rights activists and organisations. Sammi Deen Baloch, in a statement on X (formerly Twitter), criticised the authorities, stating:
“The Deputy Commissioner had assured them of his safe release.”
Dr Mahrang Baloch also condemned the killing, saying:
“State repression and fascism in Kech, Balochistan, are at their peak.”
Ongoing Demands for Justice
The circumstances surrounding Hayat Sabzal’s disappearance and killing have intensified concerns over what activists describe as a systematic “kill and dump” policy targeting Baloch civilians. His body remains at the protest site, where his family and supporters continue to demand justice and an end to enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings in the region.
