One Year On: Baloch Rights Group Launches Global Campaign Over Detention of Leaders
A rights organisation has announced a month-long awareness campaign as the first anniversary approaches of what it describes as the “enforced detention” of its leadership in Balochistan.
In a statement released this week, the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) said it would begin coordinated advocacy from 20 February to 20 March 2026 to highlight what it calls a pattern of repression in the region.
The group says several of its senior figures — including Dr Mahrang Baloch, Bebagar Baloch, Sibghatullah Shah Ji, Gulzadi and Beebo Baloch — have now spent nearly a year in custody.
BYC claims the detentions form part of a wider crackdown that has intensified since 19 March 2025, alleging enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, military operations and forced displacement affecting the Baloch population.
Four weeks of action
According to the statement, the campaign will be structured around four weekly themes.
Week one will focus on what the group calls “collective punishment and human cost”, documenting alleged disappearances, killings and displacement.
Week two will centre on “political suppression”, with BYC accusing authorities of criminalising peaceful activism, imposing restrictions under the Fourth Schedule, denying bail and limiting public gatherings.
Week three will examine what the organisation describes as “institutional complicity”, including alleged failures by state institutions and sections of the judiciary, alongside what it calls media silence.
Week four will spotlight the continued imprisonment of BYC leaders, raising concerns about legal processes in their cases and what the group claims are attempts to dismantle collective resistance.
Social media, protests and global outreach
The campaign is set to include coordinated social media activity, online seminars, video messages, pamphlets, symbolic protests and international solidarity initiatives.
In its appeal, BYC has invited writers, artists, filmmakers and activists to contribute articles, artwork, short films, poetry, research and solidarity statements to be shared through its official channels.
“The struggle for survival, dignity and justice is a collective responsibility,” the statement reads. “Your voice matters.”
