Pasni and Panjgur, Balochistan – Pakistani security forces have allegedly taken two individuals into custody in the Pasni tehsil of Gwadar, Balochistan, with their current whereabouts remaining unknown. Among those detained is Levies officer Qais Nisar, who was reportedly taken from his home by plainclothes personnel after being subjected to physical assault.
Qais Nisar’s mother has made an emotional appeal for his release, insisting that her son, a government employee, is not involved in any criminal or illegal activities. Alongside Nisar, another individual, Karim Bakhsh, is said to have been abducted under similar circumstances from his residence the same night.
These incidents contribute to the alarming rise in enforced disappearances across Balochistan. Recent reports indicate that nearly 58 cases have been documented in the region this month alone, raising concerns over human rights violations in the province.
In a separate incident, in the town of Panjgur, Pakistani forces allegedly detained a man named Dawood, son of Abdul Qadir, while he was performing Isha prayers at a mosque in the Sari Koran area on March 6. This latest detention has further fuelled protests against the practice of enforced disappearances.
For the past three days, locals in Panjgur have been staging a sit-in protest along the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) highway, demanding the release of those missing. Despite the ongoing demonstrations, new cases of abductions continue to surface, exacerbating concerns about the growing human rights crisis in Balochistan.
These developments highlight the ongoing struggle faced by local communities, as enforced disappearances remain a deeply troubling issue in the region.
