Prominent Baloch activist Dr Mahrang Baloch has penned an emotional letter to her family from prison, conveying her thoughts on the hardships they have endured and the ongoing struggle for Baloch rights. The letter, addressed to her siblings, underscores the resilience and sacrifices of Baloch families in the face of adversity.
Mahrang Baloch, a leader of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), is currently incarcerated in Huda Jail in Quetta under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) law.
Her sister, Nadia Baloch, shared the letter on social media. In it, Mahrang writes:
My Dearest Sisters and My Only Brother, Nasir Jan,
I am aware of the challenges I have brought upon you and how I have put you all through a difficult time once again at an early age. Since 2011, we have faced adversity, but this is the reality of every Baloch household today. Whenever you feel weak, look around you.
I know I have borne the responsibility for you all, hoping this burden would never weigh on your shoulders. But living in Balochistan, such experiences are inevitable, and even graver circumstances can arise. Be mentally prepared for them.
During our first meeting in prison, for the first time, I saw myself in you. The same restlessness, the same anxiety, the same desperate struggle to set things right. This is what it means to be bound by blood. But what can we do? This, too, is our fate. It is the fate of every Baloch.
I am writing this letter from my prison cell because there are thoughts I could not express during our meeting. This life is a new experience for me, and I am still learning how to speak to my siblings from behind bars. I wanted to offer you courage, but I lacked the words. Now, I am finding that courage, and you will too, as time passes. Remember how we all found strength when our father was martyred?
I had hoped that despite growing up as orphans, your lives would be filled with peace and happiness. I wished you would never have to face police raids or visit a prison again. But what can we do? These trials are the harsh realities of a life of resistance. In Balochistan, we cannot shape our lives as we wish. It may grow harder, but it is never easy.
Our father made his choice when he dedicated himself to the cause of Baloch rights. After him, we all embraced his philosophy and committed ourselves to this struggle. Now, in these difficult times, you must look after one another and be each other’s support.
Never forget: True strength is not merely physical; it is mental and ideological. Strengthen yourselves mentally and ideologically. Support each other. Do not let yourselves break. And always remember, your sister is not weak. Weakness is not something we inherited.
This is the time to be strong, to stay committed, and to stand with your Baloch brothers and sisters.
May Allah protect you all. May Allah protect Balochistan. I am unsure of the exact date of Eid as I write this letter, but I wish you and my nation an early Eid Mubarak.
Best wishes,
Mahrang Baloch
Written from my prison cell Thursday, 27 March

On Sunday, 4 January 2026, activists and supporters of the Baloch National Movement (BNM) held a protest outside 10 Downing Street, London, to highlight the alarming rise in enforced disappearances ...of Baloch women and children.
The demonstration condemned Pakistan’s alleged state-led abductions in Balochistan, which protesters described as serious violations of human rights and international law. Participants urged the British government, United Nations, and international human rights organisations to take immediate action and hold those responsible accountable.
London-based Baloch political activist and journalist Aomar Karim participated in the protest, showing solidarity with the families of missing Baloch women. He called on the international community and human rights defenders to raise their voices for Balochistan and to break the silence surrounding enforced disappearances.
By gathering at the heart of British democracy, protesters demanded international intervention to end enforced disappearances and state violence in Balochistan.
