Balochistan – 8 March 2025: The issue of enforced disappearances continues to plague Balochistan, with the recent abduction of a young man, Dawood Baloch, by personnel of Pakistan’s intelligence agencies and the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in Quetta’s Killi Shahnawaz area.
According to reports from the victim’s family, security forces in plain clothes, accompanied by CTD personnel, raided their home, damaging property and forcibly taking Dawood Baloch. In response, the family has lodged an official complaint at the local police station, calling for his immediate and safe release.
“We appeal for Dawood Baloch’s safe recovery. The state must act with conscience instead of subjecting us to suffering, especially in this sacred month,” the family said in a statement.
In a rare development, two men previously abducted in January from Zehri, Mujeebur Rehman and Muhammad Hayat, have returned to their homes. Mujeebur Rehman, son of Muhammad Anwar of the Bobak tribe, and Muhammad Hayat, son of Muhammad Umar of the Mithazai tribe, were reported missing earlier this year, adding to the growing list of enforced disappearances in the region.
The issue of enforced disappearances in Balochistan has intensified in recent weeks, with reports of dozens of individuals going missing across various districts. This ongoing crisis has drawn widespread attention, with families of the missing persons, as well as Baloch rights groups like the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) and Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP), accusing the state of “unlawful detention” and “extrajudicial killings.”
Large-scale protests have erupted across Balochistan in recent days, with demonstrations held in cities such as Turbat, Surab, Mastung, Panjgur, Khuzdar, and Hub Chowki. Protesters have braved government crackdowns and extreme weather conditions to demand the safe return of their missing loved ones. The demonstrators have warned that if their demands are not met, they will escalate their protests, calling for an end to the practice of enforced disappearances in the region.
