Baloch human rights and political activist Aomar Karim raised awareness about ongoing issues in Balochistan during his participation in the “Solidarity with Ukraine” and Trade Union Congress (TUC) 156th annual conference that was held on 8-11 September 2024, Brighton, London.

In his address, Karim outlined the primary goal of his campaign: to inform UK lawmakers and activists about the critical human rights situation in Balochistan and to urge them to advocate for an end to abuses by the Pakistani government. He emphasized the need for these influential figures to use their platforms to amplify the plight of the Baloch people and pressure Pakistan to address ongoing violations.

Karim distributed pamphlets at the conference detailing a range of issues, including human rights abuses, the enforced disappearances of Baloch citizens, and the extrajudicial killings of those who have disappeared. The pamphlets also shed light on the crackdown against peaceful protests led by the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) and Pakistan’s continuing occupation of Balochistan.
The activist underscored the importance of unity among different Baloch political parties in the UK, stating, “The world will not listen until we present a unified front. It is crucial to show that we are united so the international community can engage with us on Baloch issues.”
The TUC conference, the largest gathering of the Workers’ Party Union in the UK, included participation from MPs, the UK Prime Minister, senior officials from various workers’ unions, and human rights activists.
During his visit, Karim also held meetings with several human rights organizations and UK Members of Parliament, who pledged to organize future discussions and programs focused on Balochistan’s challenges. Prominent figures such as MPs Nadia Whittome and John McDonnell are expected to play key roles in these initiatives.

Karim concluded by urging Baloch political parties and human rights advocates to continue participating in international forums to raise awareness about Balochistan’s struggle on the global stage.
