London – Baloch human rights and political activist Aomar Karim has strongly condemned the violent crackdown by Pakistan’s security forces on the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) protest in Quetta on 21 March 2025. The brutal assault, which led to the killing of peaceful demonstrators and the detention of leading Baloch rights activist Dr Mahrang Baloch along with other protesters, is a grave violation of fundamental human rights.
The Pakistani authorities launched a pre-dawn raid on the protest site, using excessive force against unarmed demonstrators, including women and children. Reports confirm that security forces opened fire, resulting in multiple casualties, forcibly seized the bodies of slain protesters, and arrested at least 17 activists. The whereabouts of those detained remain unknown, raising serious concerns about their safety.

“This ruthless crackdown on peaceful demonstrators exposes Pakistan’s continued disregard for human rights and the rule of law,” said Aomar Karim. “The international community must not remain silent in the face of such atrocities. Pakistan’s security forces are waging a systematic campaign of repression against the Baloch people, and urgent intervention is needed to hold them accountable.”
The Baloch people have long faced enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and suppression of their right to peaceful assembly. Despite repeated calls for justice, the Pakistani state continues to use heavy-handed tactics to silence dissent. The attack in Quetta on 21 March 2025 is yet another example of the state’s oppression.
Aomar Karim has called on the United Nations, human rights organisations, and the global community to:
- Condemn Pakistan’s use of excessive force against peaceful protesters.
- Demand the immediate release of Dr Mahrang Baloch and all detained activists.
- Urge Pakistan to halt enforced disappearances and human rights abuses in Balochistan.
- Facilitate independent investigations into state-sponsored violence against Baloch activists.
“The world must stand with the Baloch people in their struggle for justice and dignity,” added Aomar Karim. “Pakistan’s ongoing human rights violations cannot be ignored any longer. It is time for concrete international action to stop this brutality.”
